The Geothermal Heating System of Kecskeméti
The district heating system currently in operation in Kecskemét produces heat with a heat power plant based on natural gas, by using gas furnaces and gas engines. The objective of the municipality is to make the energy supply of the town independent from natural gas and the price fluctuations of fossilized fuel, thereby reducing the price for end users. The aim of the project is to construct a new, geothermal heat center, which, by connecting it to the primary heat supply network in place, would satisfy the heat demand with renewable, geothermal energy. The implementation of the geothermal project will take place in two phases.
The municipality and the SPV won the award procedure in the Intelligent Energy - Europe Programme of the European Commission for the financing of the preparation of the geothermal project. The total accountable cost of the preparation project is EUR 379,295, which the European Union contributed 285,000 Euros to.
